The National Association of Black Journalists Kicks Off Its
39th Annual Convention and Career Fair In Boston
BOSTON - The National Association of Black Journalists holds its 39th Annual Convention and Career Fair July 30-Aug. 3, 2014, in Boston at the Sheraton Boston Hotel & John B. Hynes Veterans Memorial Convention Center in downtown Boston. Thousands of journalists, media executives, public relations professionals and students are expected to attend the convention for professional development sessions, discussions of current affairs and breaking news, networking opportunities and cultural events such as film screenings and music performances.

Wednesday, NABJ will have the first day of several workshops offering journalists and media professionals the opportunity to engage in innovative, action-oriented training sessions.
New York Times Washington correspondent Ron Nixon will show participants how to use databases to create compelling stories to better serve their public. This is sponsored by the Donald W. Reynolds Center for Business Journalism and the Southern New England Association of Black Journalists.
The Google for Media team will be provided knowledge and resources for journalists seeking to improve their storytelling tools.
NABJ members Herbert and Mira Lowe will host #LOWEClass, an interactive boot camp for journalists looking to learn the fundamentals of how to get recruiters to notice you.
NABJ welcomes its members, panelists, sponsors and attendees with a kick-off reception and opening ceremony starting at 6:30 p.m. in Hynes Ballroom A. Following the reception, there will be a special screening of Get On Up: The James Brown Story, which gives insight into the life and music of James Brown. Transportation to the screening will be provided, shuttles leave at 8:15 p.m. from front entrance of the Sheraton Hotel.
An advocacy group established in 1975 in Washington, D.C., NABJ is the largest organization for journalists of color in the nation and provides career development as well as educational and other support to its members worldwide.
