At the time, Kim Janey was the
Boston City Council President.

On March 22, 2021 Janey become Acting Mayor when Marty Walsh became the United States Secretary of Labor under the Biden Administration.

She became the first woman, first African American to hold the office in the 390 years of Boston's history.
