Julianna Farquharson is an incoming 8th-grade student located in West Hartford, CT. She is very passionate about the Black Lives Matter movement and sparking important conversations within her community. Because of this belief, she founded and presided over the Students Against Racism club at her school this past year. The club regularly held meetings and hosted a few events during the 2020-2021 school year. Julianna is also passionate about law, and hopes to become a lawyer when she grows older. She was a part of her school’s Mock Trial team who are the reigning state champions in Connecticut. Julianna also enjoys playing soccer and badminton and often plays with her younger sister.
Julianna was part of the 2019 Connecticut State championship team for Odyssey of the Mind, a worldwide team-based youth competition. Her team participated in the Odyssey of the Mind World Competition in May 2019 on the campus of Michigan State University in Lansing, Michigan.
She is an Acolyte at Bethel AME Church in Bloomfield, Connecticut, and a voracious reader. Julianna loves her 10-year-old sister, Gabrielle (Gabby), and is loved by her parents, Dr. Lorna and Jerome Farquharson, and grandparents, including Carole Copeland Thomas.
Jevaun Nygren is a 17 yr. old, native Minnesotan and going into his senior year at Breck School in Minneapolis. He has a long-time passion for motorcross/dirt-bike racing and has been doing this with his father since he was a small toddler. Additionally, he has learned a number of skills, including how to rebuild his engine and do various other repairs to keep his motorcycle (250 cc) running fine. Beyond this, Jevaun is also becoming an impressive golfer - something he first learned as a small child with his grandfather, and they continue to play together regularly. Soccer has been his more recent sport of choice, and he's been both a standout player and captain of his junior varsity team.
At his school, where he has been attending since pre-school, he is focused on academics, becoming proficient in the Chinese language (Mandarin specifically), and has also displayed talent as an artist with several very impressive drawings. He really enjoys using lead vs. paint for this type of work. Jevaun also works part-time in his mother's beauty salon, primarily as a receptionist and someone who helps clients with their appointments. Recently, Jevaun has had an opportunity to participate in HBCU tours (i.e., sponsored by a local Black church) and more recently visited/toured Howard University in Washington, D.C., where he seems to be very interested in attending circa fall 2022.
Jevaun loves his sibling and his parents, Wes Wells and Jil Nygren, and is loved by his grandparents, including Karen and Bill Wells, Jr.
